The Insider Insight: Anime Hothouse/IS183 2011 Gala & FUNdraiser

Hello IS183 Supporters and Party-Goers. The 2011 Theme is announced and party planning is well under way, but what to wear!

Here are some tips, tricks and inspirations. Have some ideas of your own send them along and we will share them with rest of the class.

1) Hothouse:

Compliments of our friends at Merriam-Webster:

1: obsolete : bordello

2: a greenhouse maintained at a high temperature especially for the culture of tropical plants
3: hotbed

((Tip: Think Victorian Conservatory, Orchids, Kew Gardens, etc.))

Ok, next…

1) What the heck is Anime!?

According the infallible Wikipedia, “Anime (アニメ?) refers to the animation style originated in Japan. It is characterized by distinctive characters and backgrounds (hand-drawn or computer-generated) that visually and thematically set it apart from other forms of animation….Anime and manga (a mixture of ukiyo-e and Western styles of drawing, and took its current form shortly after World War II) share many characteristics, including: ‘exaggerated physical features such as large eyes, big hair and elongated limbs… and dramatically shaped speech bubbles, speed lines and onomatopoeic, exclamatory typography.'”[2]

So now you totally know what you are going to wear now, right?

These might help…..

It’s all so clear now, right? You feel inspired, invigorated and ready to do unheard of things to your hair and wardrobe, all in support of IS183 and the creative spirit!
